ENVIRONMENTAL CONNECTION AND STEWARDSHIP

Our metro journeys range from 2 to 5 days in length and allow your students to explore easily accessible local parks and nature reserves in a metropolitan environment. With minimal travel time, your students and staff have more time to develop their leadership skills.

We live in a world in which leaders are capable of accomplishing great things. We know leadership is something young people develop through their experiences. We believe all young people deserve to be equipped with the leadership skills they need to make a positive impact in the world.

Our leadership metro journeys enhance student leadership and give them opportunities to practice and hone their skills in a supportive learning environment which provides immediate feedback for them. With an emphasis on communication, teamwork and fellowship, our leadership metro journeys facilitate young people's transition into the community and adulthood.

AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT'S ON OFFER

Because each young learner is unique, our programming allows for peaks, valleys, turbulence, excitement, periods of calm, and periods of activity. Students and staff move through a sequence of outcome-based activities, prefaced with a briefing, and concluded with a debrief aimed toward self-reflection and recognition of one's own capabilities. This reflection is a vital part of experiential education.

Communication – cycling initiative challenge students to continuously adapt and exercise meaningful communication techniques, think quickly and to listen before responding.

Trust and empathy - abseiling or rock climbing build student's confidence. They require students to rely on each other for support, both emotionally and physically as they learn new skills and prepare their harnesses.

Decision making and fellowship – navigation activities require students to take on roles and responsibilities. Drawing from the learnings from the previous sessions, they must master basic compass and map-reading skills as they work collaboratively to measure distance, consider time and plan their route. They are encouraged to have confidence in their approach and decisions.
