CONNECT STUDENTS AND SCHOOL STAFF

Our metro journeys range from 2 to 5 days in length and allow your students to explore easily accessible local parks and nature reserves in a metropolitan environment. With minimal travel time, your students and staff have more time to foster positive relationships.

Being able to form and maintain connections with peers is a fundamental life skill that must be nurtured in young people. Student connectedness promotes the development of essential social and emotional skills which are vital in creating the foundation for long-term success in school, the community and in adulthood.

Our metro journeys to connect students and school staff are an effective way of providing your students with opportunities to practice and hone the skills of cooperation, problem-solving and communication. Build your student's trust and refine their decision-making skills. Invite your staff to deepen their understanding of their pupils beyond the school environment. Allow your students and staff to take an adventure together and share in new and meaningful experiences.

AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT'S ON OFFER

Because each young learner is unique, our programming allows for peaks, valleys, turbulence, excitement, periods of calm, and periods of activity. Students and staff move through a sequence of outcome-based activities, prefaced with a briefing, and concluded with a debrief aimed toward self-reflection and recognition of one's own capabilities. This reflection is a vital part of experiential education.

Decision making and problem-solving – a bushwalking journey challenges students to work collaboratively to master map-reading skills, measure distance and consider time. They are encouraged to have confidence in their decisions as they work together to plan their route.

Communication – a collection of small group activities such as tent set-up call on students to employ a variety of communication techniques. While preparing and cooking their meals, students must not only consider the most effective way to communicate with peers, but they must also listen and follow instructions.

Social and personal responsibility –canoeing, abseiling, rock climbing or mountain biking encourages students to set their own, personal challenges. They learn to support and encourage each other as they discover new skills and push beyond their comfort zones.
