Foster meaningful relationships amongst your students to support their wellbeing
At any age, friendships provide support and promote mental health and wellbeing in all of us. For young people, these bonds are vital for their social and emotional development. Through friendships, they learn how to relate with others. They develop social skills as they teach each other, not only how to be a good friend, but also how to be good citizens.
When young people have difficulty making friends or maintaining them, it often leads to feelings of loneliness and unhappiness with themselves. Those who are good at building and maintaining firm friends use positive social skills to do so. Our fun and friendship excursions focus on developing and enhancing those positive social skills in your students. Strengthen their communication skills and build their trust.
Cycle through the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands, canoe along the iconic Yarra River or Lane Poole Reserve or explore the Lofty Ranges trails.
Because each young learner is unique, our programming allows for peaks, valleys, turbulence, excitement, periods of calm, and periods of activity. Students move through a sequence of outcome-based activities, prefaced with a briefing, and concluded with a debrief aimed toward self-reflection and recognition of one's own capabilities. This reflection is a vital part of experiential education.
Trust and empathy – rock climbing or abseiling require students to rely on each other for emotional and physical support as they learn new skills like knot tying. They learn to understand the value of encouraging each other as they push past their comfort zones and achieve their personal best.
Communication – students assist each other as they each learn how to pack and prepare their day packs. A short bushwalking journey sharpens their communication skills as they learn basic navigational tips and solve riddles along the way.
Fun and friendship – canoeing or mountain biking encourage the development of new skill while focusing on teamwork, deepening bonds and ensuring all students are engaged and having fun.
