Inspire your students to develop a meaningful relationship with nature
Many young people spend more time indoors than outdoors, at a time when a connection to nature is of vital importance. To create the foundations for an environmentally responsible young adult, it is essential to empower young people with knowledge, values and an appreciation of the environment and its relationship to their them, today.
Our environmental connection and stewardship excursions offer a unique experience in which young people learn about their local environment while immersed in it. Connect your students to the places where they live, learn, and play by allowing them to discover nearby natural spaces. Affect change in your students by developing their sense of personal and social responsibility and inspire reflection and environmental awareness, shaping tomorrow's decision-makers.
Explore the Great North Walk, sea kayak at Point Leo, abseil in Lane Poole Reserve or snorkel at Victoria Harbour.
Because each young learner is unique, our programming allows for peaks, valleys, turbulence, excitement, periods of calm, and periods of activity. Students move through a sequence of outcome-based activities, prefaced with a briefing, and concluded with a debrief aimed toward self-reflection and recognition of one's own capabilities. This reflection is a vital part of experiential education.
Environmental awareness – during camp set-up, nature art and cooking sessions, students fully engage with their surroundings and learn about sustainable practices. An introduction to Leave No Trace focuses on responsible approaches towards rubbish, kitchen scraps, soaps, toileting, animal safety.
Communication – navigation activities call on students to master basic compass and map-reading skills. They must work collaboratively and use effective communication techniques to plan their route as they become familiar with their surroundings.
Social and personal responsibility – large group activities such as bird-watching and bushwalking focused on provoking foresight and encouraging students to understand how their decisions and actions affect the environment.
